A young prince Siddharth Gautam was born in Lumbini grove; grew up in Kapilvastu amidst luxury and splendor; At the age of 29 he renounced the domestic life and left all the earthly distraction behind, to begin his quest for the true meaning of life - asearch thatleft him dark & emaciated due to severe austerities and self-mortification. After six years of wandering Siddharth selected a place in Bodhgaya for his meditation and attained "Nirvana or Enlightenment" under the sacred Bodhi tree - to become Buddha. In the fabled deer park at Sarnath, the Buddha preached his first sermon. He then travelled widely preaching his philosophy. At the age of 80, in the forest of Kushinagar, he entered the state of perfect tranquility - and attained "Mahaparinirvana".
